Our Story

NONI by Colleen Hindarto Alford

Born in Indonesia to a family of artists and designers, Colleen blends architectural design pedagogy with artistic intuition to craft exquisite fine jewelry. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Fine Art at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she honed her ability to merge structure with artistic expression.

Founded in 2018, NONI—named after the Indonesian term of endearment for "girl"—celebrates individuality, personal storytelling, and the artistry of handcrafted design. Inspired by nature’s forms, our work is an intricate dance between inspiration and process. Our creative approach is rooted in curiosity and adaptability, choosing methods that best align with the exploration of each idea. From carving and melting wax to folding paper or employing computer-aided design, each technique adds a unique voice to the work.

Based in Providence, Rhode Island, NONI offers bespoke customization options, allowing clients to collaborate on pieces that embody their unique style and cherished memories. Each design reflects the dialogue between inspiration and craft, where both method and material shape the final piece.

Designer-maker

As I pick up a seed pod and turn it over in my hand, I wonder why it looks the way it does.

My work is an intricate dance between inspiration and process. Rather than being confined to a single design approach, I embrace the freedom to adapt my methods, choosing the one that best aligns with the exploration of each unique idea. This flexibility allows the creative process to shape and define the final piece, rather than adhering to a predetermined vision.

Creating the wax model for lost wax casting is a journey of discovery. Whether starting with the intuitive flow of carving and melting wax, or taking an iterative path through folding paper or computer-aided design, each approach adds a distinct voice to the work. This process is not just a means to an end. It becomes an intrinsic part of the piece’s identity.

Ultimately my goal is not to create one cohesive collection but to allow each creation to organically manifest its essence. My jewelry reflects and remains loyal to this dialogue, where both inspiration and method leave their mark, creating a design that is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
